Off Country
Synopsis
Off Country is a feature documentary that follows the lives of seven young Aboriginal students from all over Australia, as they leave their communities to spend a year at one of the most elite boarding schools in the country, Geelong Grammar.
Every year over 3,000 Aboriginal children receive scholarships to attend private boarding schools around the country. From inside the boarding house, on the sports field and in the classroom Off Country captures the highs and lows of the school year.
Wrestling with their conflicting identities as they move between boarding school life and home life, Off Country creates a historic record of one of Australia’s key Aboriginal education pathways and a complex portrait of what it is to be an Aboriginal child in Australia today.
